POLICY:

In an effort to prevent the spread of illness and disease, implementation of proper sanitation practices and appropriate placement of equipment will be followed.

PROCEDURES:

Sanitation of Tables, Chairs, Toys, Materials, Carpets, Floors, Cribs, Cots, Mats, etc

  1. NOCAC Child Development staff will clean and sanitize tables with a disinfectant solution before and after use. The disinfectant solution is not to be used while children are in the immediate area.
  2. NOCAC classroom staff will clean child-size chairs and beanbag chairs regularly and as needed using a solution of antibacterial dishwashing soap and warm water. The chairs will be rinsed and left to air dry.
  3. NOCAC classroom staff will clean and sanitize classroom hard surface toys regularly. Toys will be cleaned and sanitized more often if the toy is placed in the child’s mouth or appears soiled. Staff will follow ODJFS Day Care Licensing Rules.
    1. Disinfectant solution of ¼ cup household liquid chlorine bleach in one gallon of tap water (made fresh daily) or Clorox Anywhere (may be used at collaborative sites only)
  4. NOCAC children will be included in age appropriate cleaning procedures as part of the education curriculum.
  5. NOCAC staff will launder stuffed animals and dramatic play clothing regularly and as needed. Items that are not machined washable will be washed by hand with antibacterial dishwashing soap and warm water, rinsed and left to air dry.
  6. Carpets will be vacuumed daily in the classrooms. Carpets should be cleaned at least once a year and as needed throughout the program year.
  7. Tile floors will be swept daily and mopped at the end of the week or sooner if soiled.
  8. Cots must be cleaned weekly with a disinfectant solution and rinsed with clear water and allowed to air dry.
  9. If a surface becomes soiled with mucous, urine, feces, or blood the area must immediately by cleaned with a disinfectant solution as outlines in the Blood borne Pathogens Universal Precaution Exposure Control Plan. Spill kits are available in all classrooms.
  10. NOCAC staff will change water in the Sensory Table after each class.
  11. Sensory Tables containing textured material must remain dry if kept overnight. If water is added to any textured material, it must be changed daily.
  12. The Sensory Table will be cleaned and sanitized prior to adding new materials.
  13. A Schedule for Cleaning and Sanitizing Items will be posted at each center and reviewed with staff on a regular basis.
  14. Disposable gloves are available and must be used by all program staff that may come in contact with bodily fluids.
  15. The use of disposable gloves is not a substitute for hand washing. Staff must wash their hands immediately after the gloves are removed.
