Utility Payment Assistance

Assistance with Heating and Cooling Costs

NOCAC has a variety of funding sources and programs available to assist families and individuals with the high cost of utilities and help avoid the disconnection of utility services. Individuals experiencing a crisis involving utilities should contact their local NOCAC Community Service Office for information regarding program eligibility.  To schedule an appointment, please call 1-844-493-1193.  You will be connected to our automated scheduling appointment system.

Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Apartments

Located on the second floor of the Richland Place building are seven Single Room Occupancy (SRO) apartments. These units are subsidized by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Tenants pay 30% of their income for rent. Single Room Occupancy (SRO) housing is available to single persons who are homeless at the time of application. Yearly leases may be renewed for an unlimited period of time.

Rent Payment Assistance

Assistance with Rent and Deposit Payments

Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission has a variety of resources to provide emergency rent assistance to prevent evictions, or so that homeless families can obtain affordable housing.

Commodity Food Services

USDA Government Food Commodities are distributed to residents of Defiance County at the Richland Place/PATH Center located at 1939 E. Second St. Defiance. Distribution takes place on the first Wednesday of each month.

NOCAC’s Community Services Offices

Community Service Offices are located in Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Van Wert and Williams counties.  Community Service Workers are available to take applications for emergency assistance or weatherization assistance, or to provide referrals to other social services, offer case management assistance, and to assist with budgeting needs.

Soup Kitchen/Drop-In Center

The PATH (Partnership Assistance to the Homeless) Center, located at 1939 E. Second St. in the Richland Place Building in Defiance, is a soup kitchen/drop-in center. The program focuses on serving homeless persons, those with severe mental disabilities, or those who have food or nutritional needs – but all are welcome. A hot nutritious meal is served each weekday at noon. Weekend and holiday meals are served at 11:30am.

Services for the Homeless

The NOCAC Emergency Shelter is located at 1939 E. Second St. in the Richland Place Building in Defiance. Housing services are provided to homeless persons and families in Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Van Wert and Williams Counties. Funding is provided by the Ohio Department of Development Office of Community Development.

Donations

DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME AND NEEDED 

The NOCAC PATH Center (Partnership Assistance to the Homeless) soup kitchen can always put donations to a very good use. We gladly accept food and hygiene products from individuals, groups and corporations. Cash donations are always greatly appreciated. Much needed items include: milk, eggs, cheese, spices, coffee, napkins, paper products, and cleaning products.
