POLICY:

NOCAC Head Start/Early Head Start will ensure the Home Based program will implement a developmentally appropriate research-based early childhood home-based curriculum.

 

PROCEDURES:

  1. NOCAC will provide home-visits and group socializations that utilize a developmentally appropriate researched-based early childhood home-based curriculum (Growing Great Kids) that:
    1. Promotes the parent’s role as the child’s teacher through experiences focused on the parent-child relationship and, as appropriate, the family’s traditions, culture, values, and beliefs by jointly planning activities that are reflective of the child’s interests,
    2. Aligns with the Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF) and School Readiness Goals to promote measurable progress toward goals outlined in the ELOF.
    3. Aligns with the Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards to ensure participants are meeting appropriate developmental milestones.
    4. Has an organized developmental scope and sequences that includes plans and materials for learning experiences based on developmental progressions and how children learn.
  2. The NOCAC EHS/Head Start Home Base Manager will monitor the effective implementation of the curriculum to ensure fidelity, and provide support, feedback, and supervision for continuous improvement of its implementation through training and professional development.
  3. NOCAC Head Start provides parents with the opportunity to review selected curricula and instructional materials used in the program at Policy Council.
  4. Beginning as early as the 2nd home visit, the enrolled pregnant woman, father, partner or other relevant family members will receive the following information, education and service opportunities through the Growing Great Kids Prenatal Curriculum (GGK).
    1. Fetal Development – Unit 2 Module 2
    2. Importance of Nutrition – Unit 3 Module 3
    3. Risks of alcohol, drugs and smoking – Unit 3 Module 3
    4. Labor and delivery – Unity 3 Module 6
    5. Postpartum recovery – Unity 3 Module 7
    6. Parental depression – Unity 2 Module 3 – prenatal and Unit 3 Module 6 – post
    7. Infant care and safe sleeping practices – Module 1 in the 0-3 section of the Birth-12 months guide.
    8. Benefits of Breastfeeding – Unit 3 Module 5
